About Me

Hi! I’m Kelsey!

I am 30 (slowly going on 80) and I am from Massachusetts but currently living in Northern California!
Here is a little bit about me, since that’s why you made it over here right?
I’m excited that you have found your way here!

  • I am married to my wonderful husband Shawn who is my number one fan, biggest supporter, teammate, and best best friend.
  • Dogs make me happy, especially chihuahuas, and we rescued our little one named Flynt <3
  • Coffee and wine drip through my veins.
  • I enjoy being active and basically living in work out gear. Who doesn’t love a good pair of leggings?
  • Tacos and pizza are life, and I have made the transition to being fully plant based since 2017.
  • I love glitter, a little bit of sass, tattoos, and a good lip color.
  • Plants are a newly acquired obsession of mine.
  • I am a chemist by day, but my full time job is battling Crohn’s Disease.

I’ll save the long version for my story, but I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2011 at the ripe young age of 20, right at the end of my junior year of college (talk about great timing…). I struggled for 5 years, not really able to get my disease under control, ashamed to really discuss it fully with friends and family, and just felt like I was floating along with a new sense of this “normalcy”. In 2016, I was re-diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and since then, I have been somewhat thriving, mostly due to taking medications that actually treat what was bothering me all along and doing a complete 180 to my lifestyle and understanding of living with chronic illness. I have been in clinical remission for about 5 years and endoscopic remission as of March 2018 (hopefully that doesn’t change anytime soon!).

This blog is here mostly because I feel deep within me that I have something to share. I have learned so much from my experience, the highs and lows, and I want to help anyone who is struggling to find their way as they navigate through their journey with inflammatory bowel disease. But mostly, I want to show and express to everyone that you can survive this and live such a vibrant and purposeful life!

I am by no means an expert or doctor, just a mere chemist who questions and researches literally everything (I’d say I’m just a little bit Type A 🙂 ). I have made it my passion to know all that I can in order to live the best life possible with IBD. I have researched, bugged my doctors, tried countless medications, diets, supplements, you name it, I’ve probably done it. I hope to share what I have learned, what has inspired me, what I love, tips and tricks of the trade, insight, thoughts, ideas and quite frankly, how I survive this life!
